Household

The household page is for the people who live with panel and don't run it. It says whether everything at home is working, who is home, and has a few safe buttons. Give someone the household role on the Accounts page and this page opens when they sign in, at the top of their menu.

They can also look at Home, Network, NAS, Self-hosted, Activity's Recent and Status, to see how things are. Those pages show them nothing to press: the only changes they make are this page's. Accounts, the logs, the audit trail, the VPN and Maintenance are not theirs.

Is everything working

The card at the top says whether everything at home is working: a green check when it is, amber or red when not, in plain words — "The internet cable is out" comes before "your provider isn't answering". Every 30 seconds the router checks:

  • the line: it pings the first hop and two public servers; 5% lost is "unstable", 150 ms is "slow to answer";
  • DNS: whether names are answered;
  • the cables: the internet's and the home network's, and their speed;
  • the machine: heat, memory, a disk filling up or failing.

When the problem is the internet, the page offers Restart the internet connection, and if that did not help, Restart the router. Each takes two taps, and they are spaced out: a minute, ten minutes.

The people

The people are kept on the Accounts page, and a device is given to a person in its drawer on the Network page (Belongs to). The household page has a card for each person, with one button: Pause, Let back on, or More time. A person's pause covers all their devices.

Everyone pauses every device at home at once. The house is the devices that belong to nobody.

Pausing the internet

For 30 minutes, an hour, until 7:00, or until let back on. A paused device loses the internet, a film already playing too, but keeps the rest of the home: the printer, the media box, the panel. A pause is lifted by who made it, or an administrator.

A device is its hardware address. A phone that uses a private address per network is a new device when it changes it, and mobile data is out of the router's reach.

Schedules

A person or a device paused at set times each week: school days (Monday to Friday, and the nights before them) and the weekend. Up to eight times each. A time past midnight, like 21:00–07:00, belongs to the morning it ends on.

While a schedule pauses someone, Allow… lets them on for 30 minutes, an hour, until the time ends, or for the rest of today. Follow the schedule takes that back.

Daily internet time

So many minutes a day — school days' and the weekend's — for a person or a device. A minute counts only when a device is really using the internet, not while it idles, and a person's devices share their time. Used up, the devices are paused until midnight, and More time… gives 30 minutes, an hour, or no limit today.

Anybody on the household page can set schedules and daily time, but not their own, unless they are an administrator.

The other buttons

  • Let ads through for fifteen minutes, for the whole network: the blocklists are set aside and put back.
  • Something isn't working: a note to the administrator, on Activity.
  • Wi-Fi: its name, its password behind Show, and a code a phone's camera joins with.

Everything done here is on the audit trail and on Activity.
